Manic is a street smart young hedgehog with a cynical outlook and a noticeably snarky attitude, but he's not quite what he appears to be visually. He looks like a total punk, but he's actually pretty sensitive and sometimes insecure. He is a thief, and a compulsive one at that, but he's not really greedy and his heart is usually in the right place. Basically, he's just a kid trying to get by the best way he knows how.

As a thief, Manic has a tendency to pick up just about anything from anyone he doesn't at least consider his friend. This can be anything from an apple to a polo mallet, but he seems to always be thinking on if the items can be used or sold for much-needed money. He runs on the logic that you never know when something will come in handy, and is often right. Even those fancy dishes he stole to sell might be better used as ammo to throw if he's cornered. He has no problems stealing from the wealthy who just flaunt their wealth, but does not steal from his friends, family, and especially not from the poor. He also sees nothing wrong with stealing from villains or from people to keep important items away from villains. He takes a lot of pride in all of his thieving skills, especially since they're needed no matter how often he gets in trouble for his compulsive thefts.

As the series progressed, Manic became increasingly suspicious and cynical. Nothing in the world comes free is something he's very aware of. Since joining the freedom fighters he's learned more than once he can't trust just anyone, and he's suspicious of people who seem too secretive. But even he knows that he can't mistrust everyone. He had gone through a period of "We're not getting anywhere so why bother?" recently, but has since gotten past it and redoubled his determination. He has been willing to do almost anything for family and the resistance pretty much since he became a freedom fighter regardless, it's just that he's learned the hard way to watch who he trusts.

Manic is surprisingly easygoing normally and can crack a joke for no other reason than to lighten the mood, even if it's at someone else's expense. He's not out to hurt anyone when he pokes fun at them though, even if he's less concerned about people he likes less. He doesn't approve of belittling someone behind their back and will either confront someone about an issue or keep it to himself...though he may conspire on how to deal with a person behind their back when he feels the need. If he's suspicious of someone, he'll take that concern to someone he trusts, and will at least investigate to be sure of his suspicions rather than call them on it and possibly cause trouble. This is mostly to keep his friends safe though.

Manic is very much a family person. He loves his siblings and looks forward to reuniting with his mother more than anything else. Even when they don't see eye to eye, he doesn't hesitate to come to their aid when he's needed and he enjoys the time he shares with them whether they're doing the same activity or not. The same is mostly true for his friends, him enjoying their company and going above and beyond for them. He likes kids, though he originally disliked caring for babies, and is surprisingly good with them. He's proven to be a diligent and attentive sitter once he applied himself, responding quickly to the needs of his charge.

Being both a thief and now a freedom fighter, Manic isn't afraid to stand up for his beliefs or fight for those in need. He's not fearless, since things like creepy old castles and unknown eerie sounds bother him, but he will do what he has to when he has to. He's the most comfortable sneaking through places that most people wouldn't want to, like the sewers, air vents, and secret passages, but this makes him a bit predictable since those are his first choice if he needs to get somewhere unnoticed. He doesn't have any respect at all for people who exploit or abuse others, and has no qualms about putting them in their place or even exploiting them when possible. He especially hates being exploited, which makes him both angry and disappointed in himself for letting it happen.

Having grown up in below-low-class economy, Manic's never really felt he had a home or place to call his own. He gets defensive about his home, and when people judge him for the habits he's gotten from his lifestyle. He's not really looking for anything fancy in life even after learning that he's a prince and, while he can enjoy a more expensive experience such as a resort or banquet, he's just happy with a room of his own or finding a couple bucks while out and about. There are two things that set him apart from both of his siblings that are noticeable pretty easily, especially while he's around them. He is confident enough with himself to not worry about his looks or needing to state that he looks good, though he at times does mention his own coolness. And he doesn't get into many arguments, either staying out of them or taking the side he feels is more valid, without actually joining in the argument himself.

Aside from music, Manic enjoys thermal surfing on his hoverboard which can also surf waves as well. He loves his board and uses it regularly as a form of transportation when not in the van, being carried by Sonic, or walking. He's a decent mechanic and knows how to service a vehicle and even how to patch up a robot to be usable enough to fly, so he likely does maintenance on his board by himself as well. He's no inventor, but he can navigate technology easily since he's grown up with a lot of it.

Abilities
Manic is...relatively plain for a hedgehog, possessing no natural superpowers whatsoever. His speed is sometimes shown as above average, but is nowhere near superspeed, and his physical strength allows him to support or carry a person if he needs to but is equally unremarkable. His strengths are mostly in lock-picking, hacking, pickpocketing, stealing, cracking the combinations on safes, and mechanics to an extent. If it has a lock and he has something that can fit into said lock, he can pick it in no time at all. He's good enough at stealing that he can unnoticed if someone isn't very observant or doesn't know to keep an eye on him. He can figure safe combinations by touch and sound, and his hacking skills are decent.

Through use of his drum medallion Manic can trigger controlled earthquakes via drumming, which can off-balance enemies, cause landslides or literal waves of dirt and rock, collapse buildings or caves, shoot pieces of earth at airborne targets, or simply crack a wall. The drums also fire lasers and the cymbals can be used as a shield that can also deflect laser fire. Once, he was even able to use them to neutralize a giant tornado of Chaos energy to save a town. He can use the drums at will, provided the energy isn't drained from them, and the energy can be recharged on powerful energy sources or gradually over a period of the day.

Character History:
Manic was born to Queen Aleena as a prince of Mobotropolis. However, when he was still a baby Mobotropolis was taken over by Dr. Robotnik and the royal family was forced into exile. In order to help fulfill a prophecy that would bring peace to Mobius, Queen Aleena had to give up her children. Manic was left on the doorstep in a lower class section of the city, but was picked up by a thief no sooner than Aleena had left and taken in to be raised by Farrel. At a very young age he began to learn how to steal, but Farrel raised him with plenty of kindness so despite having very little, Manic was pretty content with his life.

One night, many years later, he heard a song from seemingly nowhere. While he found this strange, he apparently didn’t bring it up to anyone. Shortly after that, he heard a guitar riff that he recognized while returning home with Farrel and, after telling Farrel he'd see him back at the hideout, followed it to a club where he ended up in his first jam session with Sonic and Sonia.

The club was suddenly raided by Sawtbots and Sonic helped him and Sonia escape after telling them that they were all siblings, also promising to meet up with them later and explain things. Manic returned to the hideout to find Farrel missing, having been arrested during a raid. With nowhere else to go, he met up with Sonic and Sonia again, finding that they were both in a similar situation. Just as they resolved to work together to save their families, the Oracle of Delphius appeared to inform them that they were too late and their guardians had already been roboticized.

He then set them on the path of "discovery and bonding" they’d need to follow to eventually defeat Robotnik, giving them a map to follow. They spent the night in a safehouse, but were nearly captured by the bounty hunters, Sleet and Dingo, as they were about to set out on their journey. They escaped and exited the basement through the sewers with Manic and Sonia soon developing their first, and recurring, disagreement: the subject of sewers. Along the way they began to learn a little about each other and though Manic tried to avoid telling them he was a thief outright, Sonic caught onto his occupation easily. Overall, it went over better than expected, since none of them had actually chosen the lifestyles they'd found themselves in.

When they reached the forest they’d been traveling to they met Gondar, who had been sent by the Oracle to train them in their natural abilities. While Sonic and Sonia's training focused on using their speed and power to attack, Manic learned to use his drumsticks as effective and accurate weapons; but he felt that his abilities weren’t on par with those of his siblings and considered leaving so that he didn’t slow them down. Gondar informed him that this was a mistake, and that he would one day find his own hidden talents.

Sleet and Dingo arrived to capture them again, but were defeated by the trees in the forest, which shot sap over their fleet and gummed up the engines to make the airships crash. Gondar then gave them a scroll, which transported them to the temple in Trelata where they would continue their training. Upon arrival they learned that their medallions were a source of great power, the most basic use being the power of music. The other powers would require the siblings to find harmony with each other.

The first training session involved the illusion of a locked room and a large monster. Sonic had rushed in to try to take on the beast, but Manic knew the lock and got the door open instead of trying to fight. When Sonic was caught by the monster, Sonia got herself caught trying to save him and they failed training. The monk told them that there would be no more training, pointing out that Sonia had her heart in the right place but had used poor judgement and Manic's actions had been correct, so if they'd worked together they'd have escaped easily. Sonic realized it was his fault they'd failed, but while he was being berated by the monk over his recklessness Sonia and Manic defended their brother. That, it turned out, had been the real test and it was determined that their training would continue. The rest of that day, however, was spent jamming out on their new instruments.

The next training session, they focused on trying get their weapons to work and use them to defeat a dragon. When Manic used his drums to shoot a rock at the dragon, the resulting earthquake caused Sonic to berate him over using an earthquake on a flying enemy, which broke their harmony and caused their weapons to vanish. After Sonia noticed the dragon never landed and hadn't let the launched rock touch it, she brought up the theory that it must be an air elemental and directed Manic to use his drums to shoot a hunk of rock at it. The dragon was destroyed and the training was passed. Manic also learned that his medallion was the most powerful to balance out his lack of physical power.

Moments later, they found out that Trevor, one of Sonic’s friends in the resistance, had been captured by Robotnik. Since Sonic was determined to return to Robotropolis and save him, Sonia and Manic joined him. Manic got them into the stronghold through the route he’d used in his early thief guild missions in the Mouse Patrol when he was a kid, despite Sonia's objections to the idea that anyone was teaching kids to steal. They spied on a conversation between Robotnik and Sonia's fiance, Bartlby. Robotnik had figured he'd know where Sonia was. They also saw Sonia's caretaker, now a serving robot used to wait on the tyrant. When the coast was clear they entered the room, and Sonic and Manic had to talk Sonia out of going after her caretaker...there was no way to return her to normal after all.

While Sonia looked for Sonic’s friend using the computer, Manic busied himself with stealing a few things from Robotnik that he figured might come in handy…which Sonic got on his case for. Before they could go after Trevor, they overheard a conversation between Robotnik and Sleet, talking about the Oracle. His home had been located and Robotnik planned to eliminate him. The hedgehogs decided to warn him as soon as they were done saving Trevor.

They found Trevor and, deeming it the only way to escape, made their way to the hangar to “borrow” a ship...because stealing was wrong. Manic had stolen the frequency harmonizer necessary to board a ship and they escaped the fortress while Trevor acted as their decoy. Robotnik found out and took control of the ship, activating the self-destruct sequence, but Manic had also stolen the master override key and they were able to escape before the ship exploded.

Sonic’s rash actions got them into a small amount of trouble, but while he and Sonia argued about it, Manic’s attention was caught by an apparition of their mother. She’d come to encourage them to devote themselves to each other and their cause, saying that without the Oracle their cause would be lost. Sonic and Sonia made up, but before they could leave, Sleet and Dingo showed up again. The siblings used their weapons to drive them off, then Manic used his drums to down any ships and save the Oracle. He appeared to them, revealing that their teamwork and willingness to help others had unlocked their powers, which could now be used at will.

One day they overheard a transmission from Sleet, who was in pursuit of Argus, the captain of Queen Aleena’s personal guard. The hedgehogs rushed to the rescue in hopes of also being able to learn where the queen was, but weren’t able to get there before he was arrested and roboticized. Instead, they disguised themselves as soundbots and infiltrated the inauguration for Argusbot. Using the power of their medallions, they restored his free will and escaped with him. The freedom was only temporary though, and they had to leave him after only learning that he was supposed to have been meeting the queen in the underground water channel. Manic suggested that they try the thieves’ network for leads as to where the exact meeting place was.

They got one, but it was a trap by Sleet and Dingo. They managed to lure away Argusbot again to restore his free will one more time. He was able to point out the meeting place, where a disguised Dingo was trying to lure Aleena out. Manic's board was busted, so he couldn't go warn her, so he and Sonia had to leave that to Sonic while Argus used the last of his free will to help them join Sonic. Despite the fact that it meant they missed her again, Sonic blocked her exit so she couldn’t be followed by Sleet and Dingo by caving in the tunnel she had run into. Stating that they'd meet her next time, the siblings then hurried off to avoid being captured themselves.

So I know Nautlius, like, doesn't run on money or anything, but I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get parts and tools for my board around here. And I know the easy answer's by Bending what I need, but I'm not really tool-making level yet so I gotta pass on that y'know?

So yeah, anyone who knows where I could go, I'd like to hear from you. Thanks.

Third Person:
Manic was definitely not sure about sticking around Nautilus, and not even completely because the whole "truly waking up" idea; which was really far-fetched and maybe slightly suspicious too. There was a legend about a magical city that appeared on Mobius once every four years, coincidentally on their birthday, so that wasn't too out there really. It was mostly Sonic that made this really awkward for him. His brother had his uncle here and a bunch of friends that were complete strangers to him...and he was a stranger to Sonic. His own brother was as good as a stranger to him and he didn't like that feeling. He seemed to be the only one from his world too and it was an uncomfortable feeling, one he wasn't sure that he could deal with for an extended period of time.

With a heavy sigh, he leaned back on the branch that he'd decided to sit on. He'd found this park and figured it was a good place to hang out alone, and climbing this tree was just an added step in trying not to be found by anyone any time soon. He just wanted to not fit in by himself for now while he tried to decide how to deal with this place.

Dealing with it so far had been pretty much just staying on the fringes of the group or just keeping to himself when he could, because he he felt like he didn't fit in here. He felt like he didn't fit in here even less than he had in training with his siblings despite having no powers like they had. Besides that he wasn't good at Bending either, he didn't have any powers to Bend back, and his medallion didn't work here and was just a medallion. So he was just here being useless.

But on the other hand, Nautilus had called and he had answered. Sonic and Sonia wouldn't have just given up and gone home because things were uncomfortable. That was the main thing keeping him here for now. His family wouldn't turn tail so he wasn't being true to them by bailing. He had already been told that when he went home things would go as they were supposed to like he'd never left, so he didn't even have the excuse he'd be missed or things were serious to leave and never come back.

If he was going to stick it out here, he was probably going to have to make nice with Sonic and his friends sooner or later. He should probably do it sooner though, so he reached into his fanny pack to fish out his communicator and looked up Sonic first.

Background
Manic's background is canon up until the flybot incident. After the flybots were all destroyed however, t comes to light that Manic suffers blackouts where he disappears without warning and no has recollection of doing so...and the Resistance began to suffer as well. Fighting Robotnik became harder to do because he seemed to know more, especially about what the hedgehogs were doing and they were almost captured several times. And then they found out it was Manic...somehow the serum being put into his system so much had made him more susceptible to Robotnik's control, and he had been secretly relaying information without being aware.

This presented a problem because they couldn't trust him with vital information, had to be extra cautious and keep an eye on him on missions, and had to watch their own safety as well. He couldn't leave the Resistance like he wanted to because he knew too much and because he was family, they needed his skills, and the prophecy couldn't be fulfilled without him. As a temporary solution, he was moved to a safehouse alone, and his siblings were to check on him periodically. He was also only briefed on missions just before they were to be carried out so if he had an episode there was no time for him to inform Robotnik. This was all fine and good, but Manic really didn't feel like he deserved to be a freedom fighter anymore...as did some of the Resistance, those most affected by his unintentional betrayal making it obvious or sometimes taking it out on him physically.

One night he returned to his safehouse to find a mercenary holding him at gunpoint, a black hedgehog named Shadow. Shadow claimed he'd been hired to protect Manic and to keep him from wandering into Robotnik's hands, though. Manic didn't trust him, but Shadow wouldn't go and there was really no way to defend against his gun in a closed area. It seemed he was telling the truth though, accompanying Manic anywhere that wasn't Resistance-related and living at the safehouse with him...though after an instance with a few resentful freedom fighters where Manic had been on the receiving end of a beating, Shadow started to go with him everywhere.

Sonic and Sonia were skeptical about Shadow as well, and kept a closer eye on him and Manic, but Manic soon eased into having him around because they seemed to be on a similar wavelength and at times it seemed Shadow considered him more than a job.

Things almost fell apart on a day they weren't together, Manic happened across Shadow using a communicator to report to someone about him and whether he was aware of anything. Worried because he was sure it meant Shadow wasn't who he claimed to be and hurt by the fact he was lying, Manic became distant and suspicious of him, but didn't tell anyone about it, not ven his siblings. It eventually came to the point Shadow asked him what was on his mind after more than a week. Manic exploded at him, but Shadow came clean to him finally. He was one of the royal guard before Robotnik's takeover and had been asked by Queen Aleena to look after Manic in this tough time. He showed him the royal guard seal he still carried, but wouldn't tell him where to find Aleena, because it was safer that way...but he did let manic hear the next communicator report so Manic could hear her voice.

Even those fancy dishes he stole to sell might be better used as ammo to throw if he's corner.

Since joining the freedom fighters he's learned more than once he can't trust just anyone, and he suspicious of peple who seem to secretive.

Manic's surprisingly easygoing normally and can crack a joke for no other reason than to lighten the mood, even if it's at someone else's expense.

Being both a thief and freedom fighter, Manic isn't afraid to stand up for his beliefs or fight for those in need.

While he is a thief out of necessity, he became a freedom fighter because of the desire to defeat Robotnik and reunite with his mother, but the becoming an actual member of the resistance was probably largely because of the desire to stay with his siblings since Sonic was already an experienced freedom fighter. There's also the fact that he's suffered a loss under Robotnik's tyranny, and knows that the only way to eventually end it is to fulfill the prophecy. This is just headcanon though, as his motivations for working with the resistance are never explored beyond his willingness to support his brother in episode three.

Having grown up in below-low-class economy, Manic's never really felt he had a home or place to call his own. He gets defensive about his home, and when people judge him for the habits his gotten from his lifestyle.

It's not a stretch at all to call him highly adaptable, the guy who takes what he has and makes the most of it. The little guy Basically, he's just a kid trying to get by the best way he knows how. He's the one who will stand up for the little guy being wronged when he can even if he's afraid, and the one who is not out to start a fight but will stand up for himself. He's fun-loving, but knows there's a time and a place, and reliable when needed. And while he does walk the straight and narrow path, he doesn't necessarily walk a straight line down it.

Background:

Just as they resolved to work together to save their families, the Oracle of Delphius appeared to inform them that they were too late...their guardians had already been roboticized.

He then set them on the path of "discovery and bonding" they’d need to follow to eventually defeat Robotnik, giving them a map to follow. They spent the night in a safehouse, but were nearly captured by the bounty hunters, Sleet and Dingo, as they were about to set out on their journey. They escaped and exited the basement through the sewers...Manic and Sonia developing their first, and recurring, disagreement: the subject of sewers.

While Sonic and Sonia's training focused on using their speed and power to attack, Manic learned to use his drumsticks as effective and accurate weapons...but he felt that his abilities weren’t on par with those of his siblings and considered leaving so that he didn’t slow them down.

Sonic had rushed in to try to take on the beast, but Manic knew the lock and got the door open instead. When Sonic was caught by the monster, Sonia got herself caught trying to save him and they failed training. The monk told them there would be no more training, pointing out that Sonia had her heart in the right place but used poor judgement and Manic's actions had been correct...if they'd worked together they'd have escaped easily. Sonic realized it was his fault they'd failed, but while he was being berated by the monk over his recklessness Sonia and Manic defended their brother.

That, it turned out, had been the real test and it was determined that their training would continue. The rest of that day, however, was spent jamming out on their new instruments.

The next training, they focused on trying get their weapons to work and use them to defeat a dragon. When Manic used his drums to shoot a rock at the dragon, the resulting earthquake caused Sonic to berate him over using an earthquake on a flying enemy, which broke their harmony and caused their weapons to vanish. After Sonia noticed the dragon never landed and hadn't let the launched rock touch it, she brought up the theory that it must be an air element and directed Manic to use his drums to shoot a hunk of rock at it.

Manic got them into the stronghold through the route he’d used in his early thief guild missions in the Mouse Patrol.

On their sixteenth birthday, Manic convinced his siblings to search for Mobodoon, the magical city that was rumored to be their birthplace. It only appeared once every four years on the same day under certain conditions, but Manic was positive that if it showed up their mother would too. They found Mobodoon and, upon learning that it was indeed the case that they'd been born there, Manic decided that he was going to stay. But then Sleet arrived with a convoy of robots, demanding back taxes from the city, even though it didn't run on money.

The hedgehogs were unable to drive the bounty hunters off because their medallions were drained from a recent use, so Sleet and Dingo looted the city, taking anything and everything of value, sentimental or otherwise...including the crystal that was the source of the city’s power. Without it the city's beauty faded and, if it faded from Mobius without the crystal, it would never appear in Mobius again.

Working together, the siblings ambushed the convoy and Manic recharged their medallions on the power crystal. They retrieved everything, and returned the crystal in time. Their mother had visited while they were away, leaving a happy birthday for them though she hadn't been able to wait for them. Although he almost stayed, Manic decided that his place was not in Mobodoon, but with his family and the resistance.

The Sonic Underground rescued a street kid from Sleet and Dingo one day. Manic was taken back to his time at the thieves’ guild watching him and his friends work a crowd for money. Sonic and Sonia didn't approve of the stealing and realizing his siblings were right, Manic said the same. They decided to get the kids new homes through a Duke they were friends with and arranged for them to meet him during a costume ball they were playing at that night.

While they were discussing it, another kid was brought in...Urchino. He was a slick talker and Manic didn't really like him. Sleet and a squad of robots attacked and Sonic was able to get everyone but Urchino out. They left Manic in charge of getting the kids ready for the ball. Upon realizing Urchino had been left behind, Manic was about to go save him, but he came up fine.

Before Sonic and Sonia got back, Urchino brought up the idea of scoring a fortune for the resistance. He said they could steal the Duke's tax money. Manic wasn't about to agree to something like that, but Urchino continued that he'd heard Sleet was picking up the money that evening, so it they stole it from Sleet then the Duke wouldn't get in trouble but Sleet would take the fall. Manic liked this idea, but Urchino said he wasn't sure Manic still had the necessary skills and challenged him steal a single coin from the Duke's vault to prove himself.

Manic did as dared, sneaking off in the middle of the ball, but not long after he got back Sleet barged in, claiming the money the Duke owed wasn't present. Manic was arrested when the coin was found on him and the Duke, enraged that his friends would betray him, ordered everyone arrested. Thanks to Sonic and Sonia everyone else escaped, but Manic was locked up.

Sometime later, Sonic busted him out as part of a ploy to lead the policebots to the real culprits...Sleet and Dingo. The bounty hunters had tricked Manic into taking the fall so they could get rich. The Duke apologized for mistrusting his friends and agreed to give the children a home. Manic decided then that he was a freedom fighter and not a petty thief...but he still has trouble keeping to that.

One night, after a nearly failed mission, Sonic introduced Manic and Sonia to Cyrus, an old friend with a favor to ask. His father was being forced to help Robotnik make a portable Roboticizer and Cyrus needed help to rescue him. While they were talking, Trevor came by to remind them about Sanctuary, so they had to turn him down.

They were attacked by a battalion of robots and escaped with Cyrus’ help. Afterwards they traveled to Sanctuary, where the resistance left their children to keep them safe. Then they planned to find and free Cyrus’ dad.

After the plan was already in motion, Cyrus warned Sonia and Manic that it was a trap. But it was too late and Sonia, Manic and Cyrus were captured. Sonic was able to save them, but not before it was revealed that Cyrus’ father had been roboticized already. Back at Sanctuary the siblings spent a little while comforting Cyrus over his loss.

While in Port Mobius looking for their mother, the siblings found that the entire town was loyal to Robotnik. In fleeing, they ended up on the Queen Aleena, a show boat captained by the only member of the resistance in Port Mobius...Captain Squeedge. He informed them that the townspeople had all joined Robotnik because he promised protection from Moby Deep, a legendary sea monster that was sinking ships in the area.

With the high probability that it was a trick by Robotnik, the hedgehogs decided to investigate. Manic came up with the idea to use sound waves to listen underwater and try to tell whether it was a sea monster or submarine sinking ships. Sonic, who had decided someone should watch Sleet and Dingo as an excuse not to go out to sea, arrived on the real Moby Deep to warn them that it was a sub made to look like a sea monster and they were about to be sunk.

Manic came up with the idea to force the submarine, used by Sleet and Dingo, to surface with music so it could be destroyed. They got rid of it and freed the town, but found no trace of Aleena...though she had apparently been the one to lead them to Port Mobius.

While looking for their mother’s journal in Tashistan, Sonia went missing. When searching on foot and Manic’s connections in the thieves’ guild turned up nothing, Manic suggested that he and Sonic used music to find her. She did turn up, but was captured along with another resistance member moments later.

While trying to rescue Sonia, Manic’s predictability turned out to be a hindrance, as Sleet foresaw the probability that he’d suggest the sewer as a way to sneak in and sent Dingo to guard that route. After failing to get past him, the boys decided to disguise themselves as belly dancers to fool Sleet. This worked and they managed to get Sonia’s medallion, and find the dungeon. Sonia was already free, but looking to save her friend from being roboticized. They were only partially successful on this though, as her friend was roboticized from the waist down before they freed him.

After escaping another Robotnik trap, the siblings arrived in a place Lake Valley Resort. Oddly this place was left completely untouched by Robotnik. Sonic was suspicious of this as Stripes, who was in charge, said they were left alone because they didn't oppose him so he didn't care about them...but they knew that if Robotnik didn't control it then he cared about it. Sonic cautioned Manic against mentioning the resistance, even as they decided to stay for some rest.

After getting caught for stealing, and being given free food rather than getting into trouble Manic accidentally revealed that he was resistance and caused an uproar because the villagers believed that the resistance fighting Robonik was the reason that Mobius was in such a terrible state. Sonia was indecisive on where she stood with Stripes, who she was developing feelings for, because he believed the only way to save Mobius was to make a deal with Robotnik. While Sonic went to see what Stripes was up to, Manic tried to comfort Sonia.

But Stripes ratted them out and Sleet and Dingo turned up...not only to catch them, but to destroy the valley and roboticize the residents as Stripes wasn't needed anymore since he turned over the hedgehogs. The hedgehogs teamed up with the villagers and saved the valley, and Stripes realized that he had been wrong to think that making a deal was the way to go.

Later two problems came up at once. First was the building of an intelligent ship with a brain, called the Predator, which would travel the world catching freedom fighters to be roboticized. Dealing with the Predator was handled by making it possible to control it, and Sonia was to pilot it...Sonic and Manic failed the flight simulation test for pilots, in a spectacular fashion.

Second, and just as serious, was that Sonia suddenly becoming very distracted, to the point that she spaced out frequently and once got captured because of it. Sonia’s distraction had to do with a special ball she wished to attend, which they only found out about because Manic picked her pocket for the invitation she'd received. They were able to make it so that she could make a brief appearance, before her mission in hijacking the Predator, so she was happy.

After a trap to catch Sonic with a speedbot failed, Sleet and Dingo set another trap for the siblings. Disguised as Aleen, Dingo let Manic spot him dropping a letter. The letter stated that Sonia had inherited a castle, so she and Manic went to check it out. Manic didn’t really want to stay in the creepy, vermin-infested place, but when Sonia called him on being scared he felt obligated to prove he wasn’t.

They discovered that it was a trap from the caretaker, but when they went to find Sonia, she'd entered a magic mirror. Sonic went after her, leaving Manic to wait for them in her room. He fell asleep and was visited by Aleena who told him the mirror would be their way out. He recalled this as the castle was being bombarded by enemy fire and everyone escaped before it was destroyed.

The Sonic Underground infiltrated a “party” Robotnik arranged to hear an announcement he was supposed to give. He’d found the lost city of Mobopiktu and was auctioning off priceless treasures to raise money to build more Swatbots. Not willing to stand by and see this, they interfered and Manic smuggled off one artifact without telling anyone and pawned it for money to help the resistance. Unfortunately, the “artifact” was really an old bomb from the last great Mobian war. By the time they got back to the guy he’d sold it to, it had been sold to Bartlby. They managed to save the pompous noble and drive away Robotnik, and even found the real Mobopiktu.

While out thermal surfing one day, Manic was attacked by a jetbot. Sonic saved him, but got on his case a little saying they needed to go together next time, but also offered to teach him some thermal surfing techniques. He then told Manic he’d just heard some news about their mom and they set off to meet Sonia.

Later, Manic constantly and purposely hitting potholes made them have to stop and repair their van. A freedom fighter named Rudy came to them for help because he’d seen some glowing insects leave his village right before his friends turned on him and tried to take him to Robotnik. Sonia told Sonic to check out the village but when he didn’t take Manic, the green hedgehog got upset and decided to go catch one of the insects on his own. Unfortunately, this resulted in him being stung by one and, under the influence of the serum it pumped into him, he walked right into Robotnik’s clutches.

Seeing this as a chance to catch the others, Robotnik slipped a radio-controlled Flybot into his waist pouch, which he could use to periodically regain control of Manic. He then ordered the hedgehog be dropped back in the Outback.

At first, Robotnik's plan went smoothly, Manic radioing him every time they, along with Rudy, relocated...but Sonia caught him and they found the flybot and destroyed it, and then saw to destroying the rest of the little annoyances and the serum.

Upon returning to Rudy's village, they found that some of the freedom fighters had escaped harm that night Rudy had been ambushed. Manic also promised he wouldn't try to do things on his own anymore.

In Sonic Tonic, Manic and Sonia got fed up with Sonic and his speed...though it didn't stop them from rescuing him when Sleet and Dingo caught him because of the special tonic Robotnik had made to make them fast. Saving Sonic and stealing the Sonic Tonic, they then headed for the hanging gardens of Mobius to make sure Robotnik couldn't make anymore...it had the added side effect of making Dingo's (and, unbeknown to them, Sleet's) feet grow to unmanageable size, and Sonic was worried Robotnik would test it on other people to perfect it.

When Sonic's self-important attitude pushed them too far, Manic and Sonia used the Sonic Tonic and left Sonic in the dust for once, leaving for the garden without him just to show him up. But the same side effect happened to them when they confronted Sleet and Dingo. Sonic threw the vial of the remaining tonic into the water, where it restored the ruined garden to its original state, as well as saved them from being captured. Sonia and Manic admitted they were stupid for using the Sonic Tonic, but Sonic admitted that it was really his fault for teasing them about being slow and promised not to do it anymore.

Friend or Foe was an important point in the story. Following rumors that their mother was there, the hedgehogs traveled to a floating island to find her. The Oracle had warned them that they should beware the echidna (Gee, echidna on a floating island...who could this mystery character be?) and that the island was fraught with danger...a warning that Sonic didn't heed. The echidna guarding the island attacked, under the impression that they were trying to steal the Chaos Emerald, and nothing they said could make him think otherwise.

Friend or Foe was an important point in the story. Following rumors that their mother was there, the hedgehogs traveled to a floating island to find her. The Oracle had warned them that they should beware the echidna(Gee, echidna on a floating island...who could this mystery character be? and that the island was fraught with danger...a warning that Sonic didn't heed. The echidna guarding the island attacked, under the impression that they were trying to steal the Chaos Emerald, and nothing they said could make him think otherwise.

When Manic and Sonia were separated from Sonic, they stumbled upon the truth via a pet dinosaur. It had swallowed a projector that had a recording of them planning to steal the emerald. Realizing Sleet and Dingo had tricked him, they tried to catch them before they got the Chaos Emerald and the island fell. Knuckles was much more open to their presence after that, especially when he learned that they were Queen Aleena's children, and led them to where she left a prophecy stating that as Robotnik's tyranny neared its end allies would join them...Knuckles being the first.

Later Aleena guided them to Speedster Island, where the natives were being forced to sell their island to Robotnik because they no longer had the resources to provide for themselves. They befriended Mantu, who had asked help from the island guardians, three statues that looked like them. Sonia and Sonic went to try to talk sense into Bartlby, but Manic stayed to study the statues instead.

He figured out the markings he'd noticed were musical notes and that playing them activated the guardians, using this to drive off Sleet and Dingo when they showed their true colors. After that, they stayed to party with the villagers to celebrate.

Time passed and they continued to make progress...though how much was questionable, with no clue to Aleena's whereabouts, and no sign that they were closer to beating Robotnik. Sonia suggested they see the Oracle for answers. He told them that he'd share his visions with them...in exchange for an act of valor.

He sent them through a portal to an oppressed kingdom, without their medallions. They arrived apart from each other, and Manic was soon arrested after saving a peasant girl from being trampled. Sonic and Sonia soon joined him in the dungeon, lacking their powers as well as their medallions. Manic came to the conclusion that if this world was like Robotropolis then they wouldn't like music...and if someone came to stop them it might be a chance to escape.

The escape didn't go as planned, and Sonic was taken to the gladiator pit, while Manic was forced to be palace juggler and Sonia to be a personal servant...or be fed to the lions. They wound up in the lions' den anyway, but not before finding out about the true ruler and his daughter. Escaping, they found Sonic, freed the emperor, dethroned Sleetus, and reclaimed their powers.

Reappearing in the Oracle's home, it was revealed that they would fulfill the prophecy someday if they remained true to themselves and their powers. He gave them a globe that would help them find their answers as well.

Sometime after Manic used a mechanical bug to snoop on Robotnik and the hedgehogs found that he was about to buy a jewel that their mother had sold off for money to aid the resistance, which could be used as a homing beacon to find her. Manic suggested stealing it because the fact they were keeping it from Robotnik made it okay in his book, but his siblings still felt it was wrong. They were able to get the jewel first and follow where it led, but inadvertently wound up in the trap she had set for Robotnik and spoiled her plans.

Later still, they heard Robotnik was designing a portable Roboticizer that was small enough to be carried in a pocket. The initial attempt to steal the plans was foiled, but the hedgehogs found an abandoned baby as they were escaping and took him in. Manic was less than thrilled at first, especially having to babysit alone, but as he spent time with the baby he really became attached. After a joyride and jam session with the infant, Manic decided he needed a name and called him Hip. When his siblings returned without success in finding Hip's parents, it was decided that Manic would babysit while they went after the plans again. Manic suggested that afterward they take Hip to Sanctuary, but Sonia felt they had no time. So despite it being dangerous, Manic left to take him alone, rather than risk leaving him someplace like a safehouse that could be easily raided.

The trip took a turn for the worse when Dingo, disguised as Hip's basket, grabbed him and Manic's struggling caused the baby to fall out...where he smashed to bits on the ground below, a trick by Robotnik to find Sanctuary that almost worked. The hedgehogs defeated the attack unit that had been following Manic, then traveled the rest of the way to Sanctuary to play with the children.

Deciding that they needed more allies, Sonic took them into the desert in search of a nomad tribe that were sworn enemies of Robotnik. They found them, but Manic was suspicious of the leader, Ifyoucan, because he kept his face hidden all the time and didn't dance with the rest of the tribe during the celebration of Sonic joining their tribe. Convinced that something was up, he went to spy and discovered that Ifyoucan was roboticized, but was captured and left in the middle of the desert without food or water right after. It was Sonic and Ifyoucan who came for him, as Ifyoucan had his free will despite his appearance and his bodyguards had acted in his defense. By the time that they returned to the camp though, everyone was captured by Sleet and Dingo, forcing everyone to join forces to drive them away.

Next they learned Robotnik had an important book of the royal hedgehog family that, once they reclaimed it, led them to a temple of their ancestor where they obtained a scroll that detailed how to defeat Robotnik. Unfortunately it was so old it disintegrated the instant they unrolled it.

While checking a prison for records of if their mother was held there, they found there was still a prisoner that no one knew the identity of. Figuring he must be important they freed him, only to find that he was supposedly their banished uncle. According to him, only one could rule so in the case of siblings the others would have to go into exile, and Robotnik hadn't wanted him trying to claim the throne. A rift began to form between the hedgehogs, Manic because he felt he was being written off as unworthy of the crown because he was a street rat. The band broke up and Manic left with their uncle, and was captured by Dingo and imprisoned. Sonic and Sonia soon joined him, as it had been Robotnik's plan to separate and capture them. Their uncle was just an actor forced to help catch them under threat of being roboticized. They reconciled and escaped though, deciding that if they got to rule it would be together.

Revisiting the Oracle, they wanted to learn more about the globe and so opted to take the next step when it was offered. The Oracle sent them to an alternate dimension where they quickly found Robotnik was a freedom fighter opposing the rule of sheltered cruel versions of them. The hedgehogs went to the palace pretending to be their bad doubles and firing the guards so they wouldn't be interrupted, then confronted the royal family. The major issue having been ignorance, they took the doubles through their city to show what their rule had done and given them a new perspective. That done, they left that world and their mother appeared to them to express her pride.

The vacation they were taking was cut off by Robotnik in a massive floating battleship they couldn't challenge. Even Sonic couldn't from the inside, having been forced out by an emerald green energy. Worried Robotnik had a Chaos Emerald, they patched up a stealth-bot shot down in the attack and flew to the floating island to ask Knuckles for help...which he very reluctantly gave. They boarded the battleship, but the emerald was taken just before they reached it and the fortress fell into the sea. Knuckles got them to safety and Sonic left to get the van. Meanwhile the emerald was broken and the energy released. Manic was able to combat one energy vortex with his drums to protect Port Mobius, but Knuckles led them to his great grandfather for help.

They received a canister to seal the emerald in once found, but were also told they had to cooperate with Robotnik to save the world...something the hedgehogs refused. Knuckles went missing when Sleet attacked, and when they found him he led them into a trap. He saved them when Robotnik broke the deal he'd made but Sleet later tried storing the emerald in Dingo-safe, causing Dingo to morph into a giganticchaos monster. Unable to stop him, they sided with Robotnik finally, ultimately just using him to get the emerald. Afterwards Knuckles returned to his island.

Robotnik's next trap was obvious, a false wedding between him and their mother to catch them. They knew it was a trap, but took the bait because of the slim chance he did have their mother and was forcing her to marry him. Sonia was captured and Manic jailed while trying to set up a diversion, but their mother came to the rescue with their diversion to escape.

The next thre episodes don't affect Manic much, protecting a dam and repairing the alliance between feuding families, a robot designed to get real opinions from her clients that are "loyal" to Robotnik and that Sonia accidentally gives secret information on the resistance to, and a scam artist with a fake de-roboticizer that nearly got Sonia roboticized. When in another city to reclaim some of the royal family's goblets, Sonic and Manic were captured and placed in Roboticizers in opposite sides of the city to force Sonia to choose between them. But an ally and well-timed help from their mother let Sonia save them both and they all escaped with the goblets. The next mission in an icy region was ultimately stopping the icebergs from being melted.

When freedom fighters began to go missing, Manic and Sonic began to act as bait to find the cause. Manic became the victim when Sonic left him alone, knocked out by the sleeping gas of a small flying robot with a powerful energy source and almost carried off in another. To stop the use of this weapon, they destroyed the mine that the fuel came from as well as the production line where the bots were made. And then later they had to both destroy a cavern of large rubies that were useful to enhance lasers, and save Sonia who went to save Bartleby who was on trial as bait for her.

Manic began to feel like they were making no progress in their fight against Robotnik and was starting to feel like they shouldn't even bother. This was furthered by the reveal of a powerful new robot called ART, who was built to take them down. He wasn't convinced they'd done much good even when ART appeared destroyed. ART did captured them, but his being able to learn let them teach him through their music and he joined their cause to atone for catching freedom fighters. Manic remained pessimistic throughout, until they got a message that Robotnik had captured their mother. They went to free her, but it was a trap and they were locked in a room with compressing walls. ART directed them in how to escape and Manic made it possible, but it was only when ART opted to stay because his actions didn't matter and Manic tried to convince him otherwise that Manic realized he shouldn't have been considering giving up. Unfortunately this revelation changed nothing as ART actually couldn't move because he was doomed to be crushed regardless. he did blast the hedgehogs an escape route and they got away, and in honor of his fallen friend, Manic used an excess of explosives on their next factory demolition mission.

Abilities/Additional Notes:
Manic is...relatively plain for a hedgehog, possessing no natural superpowers whatsoever. His speed is sometimes shown as above average, but is nowhere near superspeed, and his physical strength allows him to support or carry a person if he needs to but is equally unremarkable. His strengths are mostly in lock-picking, hacking, pickpocketing, stealing, cracking the combinations on safes, and mechanics to an extent. If it has a lock and he has something that can fit into said lock, he can pick it in no time at all. He's good enough at stealing that he can do so unnoticed if someone isn't very observant or doesn't know to keep an eye on him. He can figure safe combinations by touch and sound, and his hacking skills are decent.

Through use of his drum medallions Manic can trigger controlled earthquakes via drumming, which can off-balance enemies, cause landslides, collapse buildings or caves, shoot pieces of earth at airborne targets, or simply crack a wall. The drums also fire lasers and the cymbals can be used as a shield that can also deflect laser fire. He can use the drums at will, provided the energy isn't drained from them, and the energy can be recharged on powerful energy sources or gradually over a period of the day.

Advocate Note: No thanks.

Sample Network Post: [Voice]
Well can't say I'm too surprised to be back in Paradise again, but there are worse places to be dragged I guess. So long as Sleet's not still here anyway, since it's not like I don't see him enough back home. Looks like someone's been keeping the radio going for me and I probably know who.

More importantly though, did anyone miss me? And any other hedgehogs out there? Namely blue, black and red, or dark pink?

Sample RP:
There was still that feeling like he'd never left. This odd sense that he'd just blinked and was back at the hospital here in Paradise. If he'd really gone home it hadn't been long like the first time it had happened. How long had he been gone anyways?

Drumming his fingers idly on the counter, Manic mulled this over a bit before shaking his head and hopping down from the stool he was seated on. He wasn't getting anywhere and it really didn't matter. He had his apartment, he had his store, he had...Shadow. So he was good, except he didn't have his family. Sonic and Sonia weren't here as usual. They never seemed to be, that made him a little down. It was always just him.

Pulling a CD down from the nearby shelf, he moved into the radio room and slipped it into the player, letting the sound of rock play throughout the music store and over the radio network, lifting his mood. He couldn't do anything about his family issue right now and he knew that eventually he'd be sent home...more likely than them coming to him. So he'd just make the best of it until then. He smiled. Actually, he'd have loved the chance to run a radio station on Mobius.
